In short: Sawa Tours is a marketplace operated by Online Era (registration 148500). Licensed Egyptian operators deliver its tours. Reserving is free; payment starts at GoAhead, normally when four travellers have reserved.

The quick answer

Sawa Tours is a marketplace, not the company that runs your tour. It is operated by Online Era (commercial registration 148500), which forms the group and coordinates payments. The tour itself is run by a Ministry-licensed, ETAA-registered Egyptian operating company, named on the departure page once it accepts the departure. Nothing is charged until four travellers have reserved and the date reaches its GoAhead.

Key facts at a glance

  • What Sawa is: a marketplace connecting travellers with licensed Egyptian travel companies, on shared departures of fixed tours.

  • Who operates Sawa: Online Era, commercial registration 148500.

  • What Sawa is not: the operating company. The company that runs your tour is the licensed operator named on the departure page.

  • Who runs your tour: the operating company of record, a Ministry-licensed, ETAA-registered Egyptian company, named on the departure page and on your booking confirmation.

  • Who coordinates payment: Online Era coordinates payments through Sawa.

  • Which operators can run departures: only Ministry-licensed, ETAA-registered Egyptian companies.

  • When you pay: only once the date reaches the GoAhead, when four travellers have reserved it. Reserving a seat is free.

  • If a date doesn't confirm: nothing was charged, so there is nothing to refund.

  • Group size: groups are capped at eight; when a departure fills, a second departure opens on the same day.

  • Contact: WhatsApp +20 109 284 7613, answered 24/7 during trips.

Before paying any travel company they found online, sensible travellers type its name into a search engine. If you found Sawa Tours through a departure page or a recommendation, this is that moment. Here is who is behind the platform, who actually runs the tours, how booking and payment work, and what you can verify before you commit a single euro. It is written by the people behind Sawa Tours (sawa.tours), the Egypt shared-departure platform. We have worked in Egyptian tourism since 1993, first as a guide and then running an agency, and we would rather you check us than trust us.

Is Sawa Tours legit?

Sawa Tours is a legitimate marketplace: operated by a registered Egyptian company working only with licensed tour operators, and charging nothing until a trip is confirmed. Each of these can be checked, and the routes are below.

  • The company. Sawa is operated by Online Era, commercial registration 148500. Ask Sawa for its current company documents and check that the legal name and registration number match your booking paperwork.

  • The tours. Every departure on Sawa is run by a Ministry-licensed, ETAA-registered Egyptian travel company. That operator is named on the departure page once it accepts the departure, before you pay anything, and again on your booking confirmation.

  • The money. Nothing is charged until four travellers have reserved the date, the GoAhead. A departure that never fills costs you nothing.

Who runs Sawa, and who runs your tour?

Two different entities answer that question, and keeping them separate is the key to understanding Sawa.

Sawa is the platform. It is operated by Online Era, which matches travellers, forms the group, confirms the date at the GoAhead and coordinates payments.

The licensed operator of record runs your tour. It is the Ministry-licensed, ETAA-registered Egyptian travel company that actually delivers it: its vehicles, its Egyptologist guide, its responsibility. On each departure the operator is the approved agency with the most travellers on that date. It is named on the departure page once it accepts, and on your booking confirmation after.

Only companies holding both credentials, a Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities licence and ETAA registration, can run departures on Sawa. You will never see Sawa write "our guides" or "our buses": the guide on your departure is the licensed operator's Egyptologist guide, and that is the standard every page is written to.

How to verify the operator before you pay

Verification takes about ten minutes and costs nothing. Read our full walkthrough in How to Check an Egypt Tour Company Is Licensed; the short version:

  1. Get the operator's name and licence number from the departure page or invoice.

  2. Look the company up in ETAA's public companies index at etaa-egypt.org; member companies are listed with a membership number and location.

  3. Use the official tourism hotline, 19654 within Egypt, to ask which Ministry department can confirm the operator’s licence. Have the legal company name and licence number ready.

Who handles your booking and payment?

Sawa handles the booking and the payments; the tour is delivered by the licensed operator named on the booking. Sawa remains responsible for the booking services it undertakes; the operating partner delivers the itinerary and included travel services. Read the Terms and Conditions, including the cancellation schedule in section 13. An operator’s own cancellation schedule applies only where disclosed before you reserve.

Reserving a seat is free: no card is charged and no hold is placed. Payment starts at GoAhead. The standard deposit is 10% for a day tour or 25% for a multi-day package, with the balance due on the date shown on your confirmation. If confirmation is within 30 days of departure, the full amount is due at confirmation. Check the exact amounts and dates before reserving.

How the GoAhead protects your money

The GoAhead is the mechanic that keeps your money out of harm's way: a departure only becomes a payment after four travellers have made it viable.

The sequence runs like this: you reserve a seat at zero cost; the date confirms when the fourth traveller joins; only then does payment start. Once confirmed, the date runs. It cannot be cancelled for low numbers, even if someone drops out. Groups are capped at eight, and when a departure fills, a second departure opens on the same day. The price is fixed per traveller.

See the GoAhead promise and how booking works for the full mechanics, or browse departures to see the operator and booking details for your chosen date.

Are there Sawa Tours reviews?

Independent reviews of Sawa Tours are thin today, because the platform is new, and we will not quote star ratings that do not exist. What we can point to instead is verifiable: the licensed operator named on every departure, the licence-checking routes above, the terms shown on the page before you book, and a WhatsApp line that answers before and during your trip.

If you want third-party opinions while Sawa's own reviews build up, do what the licensing guide teaches: verify the named operator's standing with the Ministry and ETAA, and ask the operator directly for references from past departures. When real traveller reviews of Sawa exist, they will be linked from this page.

How to reach a human at Sawa

Sawa is easy to reach before you book: message WhatsApp +20 109 284 7613 (answered 24/7 during trips), use the contact page, or check the FAQ, which carries the same numbers as this guide.

Three questions are worth asking before any booking, ours or anyone else's: which licensed operator runs this departure, and what is its licence number? Has my date reached the GoAhead yet? What is the cancellation policy on this departure? A company that answers those three quickly and specifically is showing you exactly what you need to know.
